Digital Britain Implementation Plan Announced

The Government has come up with a 27-page Digital Britain implementation plan giving out the details of various stages of execution of the plan brought out in the report’s initial draft. Along with the primary guidelines on the improvement of broadband UK services (click broadband providers for information on your ISP), the plan also comes up with suggestions on coping with the illegal P2P filesharing.

Besides the usual overdose of legal jargon, the document sets out to provide an outline for earmarking responsibilities to individuals to ensure the smooth implantation of the plan.

The plan also comes up with means to tackle the growing menace of illegal data copying in the United Kingdom. The Government plans to empower the regulatory watchdog, Ofcom, with new legislation to curb online copyright infringement by the internet service providers. However, the complete details of the plan prepared by the government to tackle this problem are still not known. The implementation plan also provides Ofcom with a period of one year to do away with the problem of illegal file sharing, failing which it would have the right to use its “backstop powers”, a term that the Government is yet to define.

Overall, the implementation plan has succeeded in providing better guidelines to realise the Government’s Digital Britain dream. However, crucial details pertaining to the implementation of the idea into practice are still not forthcoming.
