Ashley Fiolek of American Honda 2009
The 2009 Women’s Motorcross Championship was won by Honda Red Bull Racing’s Ashley Fiolek, an 18 year old deaf athlete. During an exciting race at the Steel City Raceway in Delmont, Pennsylvania, Ashley Fiolek won the race with a broken collarbone! During the race, Fiolek took a tumble on her Honda CRF250R, but with her motorcycle still running, she hopped back on and continued with her race.
In response to the crash, Ashley Fiolek stated, “When I crashed, I knew I had to get back up and keep going. I was in a lot of pain, but I couldn’t let my team or fans down.” True to form as a courageous champ, she worked through her pain and cleared all of the major jumps and finishing her race, while garnering the the needed points for the ‘09 Women’s Motorcross Championship. Early September, Fiolek had surgery on her collarbone in Jacksonville, Florida.
Ashley Fiolek is a deaf athlete who started racing used motorcycles at the tender age of 7 years old. When Fiolek was 13 years old, she won the 2004 AMA Amateur National Motorcross Championships, her first ever national win! Since then, in 2005 and 2007, she won 12 additional national championships, along with over 100 races. She never let her disability keep her from enjoying her passion of racing motorcycles.
Fiolek became a full fledged professional motorcyclist in 2008. She is competed in championships in the US and in Europe. She is also the winner of the AMA/WMA Women’s Professional Motorcross Championship.
Ashley Fiolek is currently sponsored by American Honda, Red Bull, T-Mobile Sidekick, Alpinestars, Leatt Brace, Vans, Rockewell Watches, Moto Endurance, Airoh and Smith.
