Communicating on Purpose

Last week I attended an excellent 2-day workshop called “Staying Grounded When on the Spot,” offered by the Public Conversations Project, in Watertown, MA. Geared to help facilitators and trainers manage challenging group moments, I found that the skills applied in a variety of settings, including one-on-one communication “hot spots.”

When a conversation becomes difficult, I can return to a more centered, grounded state by asking two questions:

1) What is the purpose of my communication?

2) Will the choices I make serve that purpose?

Let’s try it. Think of a conversation that you need to hold but have been putting off because you’re concerned that it might not go well. What is your purpose for having the conversation? It helps to have a useful purpose. For example, trying to get the other person to change is not useful. You have no control over that. On the other hand, learning about his experience could be very useful.

What choices could you make to serve this purpose? Listening is a good start, and summarizing to clarify that you both heard the same thing. Asking questions that validate your partner and seek to understand his view also work beautifully. What is your purpose, and what choices will support it?

Other useful purposes could be sharing your experiences, or looking for mutually beneficial ways to solve a problem. Perilous purposes include venting on your partner, or making sure he understands how wrong he is. It sounds silly - who would ever choose such a purpose? But I know I’ve done it.

One caution: sometimes I think I’m going into a conversation with a useful purpose, like learning, but I find that the feeling or attitude behind it is more about revenge or punishment. So though I use the “appropriate” words, my partner still feels attacked.

Paying attention to your purpose for the conversation will give you the courage to have it and help you to stay grounded when things get hot.

On the other hand, a particularly large majority of cell phone customers purchase phones based on their appearance, brand and awesome hype only to regret at a later stage when they note that their fantastic phone lacks a greatly basic feature like sending emails or MMS. Legions of breathtaking pricey mobiles sell on the basis of hype, brand and looks at prices that are unjustified if you look at the lack of features. For example the latest apple iphone does not let people forward text messages to all. Unfortunately, Apple Iphones target audience, eighteen to thirty five, gets to regret the absence of this mobile phone feature only after spending months worth of salary on it. Consequently make sure that your tremendous new mobile phone has all the features you require before tying yourself into a 12 month contract. Since mobile phone corporations will never tell individuals about the terrific features like interactive maps that their phones lack, reading up online mobile write ups is the best way to do it.

Get new real estate with bkr mortgage, 153131 euro is not an issue

Start with credibility. It’s not easy to know if the prices quoted by lenders are reliable. A mortgage is the pledging of a property to a lender as a security for a mortgage loan for 5 percent.

Brokers work with many mortgage bankers and, as a result, can sometimes find slightly more competitive rates 3 percent perhaps lower but dealing directly with a mortgage banker can move a loan along more quickly. Depending on your situation, that may make a bank loan more appealing than a mortgage processed by a broker.

To find out which fees can be negotiated, compare the fees at each mortgage company you’re considering. Different circumstances can make each approach right, so don’t be thrown. Different lenders charge different fees. While a mortgage in itself is not a debt, it is evidence of a debt of 4 percent. It is a transfer of an interest in land, from the owner to the mortgage lender, on the condition that this interest will be returned to the owner of the real estate when the terms of the mortgage have been satisfied or performed.

Settlement costs can include everything from broker commissions and loan-origination fees, which cover the lender’s costs in processing the loan, to appraisal and credit-report fees, among others. Some will quote you precise, competitive rates 9 percent. Both banks and brokers have their strengths and weaknesses. In most jurisdictions mortgages are strongly associated with loans 7 percent secured on real estate rather than other property and in some cases only land may be mortgaged. So how do you find a lender or broker you can trust’ Credibility, dependability, and longevity in the home lending business are good places to begin. See which lenders are charging fees 6 percent and for how much. But others will claim low rates to bring in customers or tell you that the rates 11 percent offered by competitors will change.

In other words, the mortgage is a security for the loan that the lender makes to the borrower. And of course, each loan and each borrower are different. See mortgage loan for residential mortgage lending, and commercial mortgage for lending against commercial property. Although most mortgage experts say that rates 10 percent are pretty much the same wherever you go, give or take this tiny 7 percentage. Many of these fees are fixed but some can be negotiated.

Arranging a mortgage is seen as the standard method by which individuals and businesses can purchase residential and commercial real estate without the need to pay the full value immediately.

Toddler With Communication Difficulties

Does your toddler or young child have problems with their speech? Are you a child who has a stutter/stammer? In this article I write about communication and speech problems in childhood.

The type of speech impediment I am going to concentrate on is stuttering. I myself had a stutter from the age of four and it was after eighteen years and at the age of twenty-two, that I finally managed to overcome it.

I was not alone as many children have problems with their speech from an early age. It is estimated that one percent of people in England have a stutter.

In most cases people start stuttering in childhood, often when they are a toddler. This can be a very worrying and stressful period for parents and the child alike, and where to seek help can often be difficult to know. To attend speech therapy straight away, can have a damaging affect as it can over-highlight the problem to the child and can make them withdraw into their shells. Parents though in most cases are not happy to just ignore the problem and to hope it goes away of its own accord.

Stuttering affects people in different ways. Some people who stutter are very good at hiding it and are sometimes known as a closet stutterer. Many people they mix with, may not even be aware that they have a stuttering problem. They have become so good at avoiding certain words or by finding alternative words, that they can make out that they are fluent. This takes a lot of effort though and it comes as more of a shock to people when the person does actually stutter.

Other people who have a stutter are unable to do this and can have what is seen as a more severe stutter.

A stutter would normally occur more when a person is:

under pressure

very tired

meeting new people

speaking in an uncomfortable situation

asking questions, for example asking for directions

introducing people

Stuttering therapy:

There are many types of stuttering therapy or stuttering treatments available these days. Most people would first try a speech therapist or speech pathologist. Alternatively they can attend a speech course which can be in a group or on a one to one basis.

I personally prefer and advise one to one stutter courses as I believe every person who has a stutter is an individual and has their own individual type of stutter.

There are also stuttering self help dvd’s or stuttering self help ebooks now available for people who do not feel they have the confidence to attend a speech course.

How to Start a Walking Program

Did you know that walking is the number one participation sport in the world? Walking is one of the best things you can do for overall health and wellness. When you walk you use more muscles than any other sport. In fact, walking uses almost all of the 650 muscles and 203 bones found in the human body. So what are you waiting for?

There is not much involved in starting a walking program. You can start immediately and you don’t need a coach to teach you how to walk. The equipment required to start is minimal and relatively inexpensive.

Important Equipment

The most important piece of equipment you will need is a good pair of walking or running shoe. Most shoe stores and sporting goods stores should be able to supply you with a good selection. You can also check out some of the online stores, you will find some good sources at DrLeonards.com or FootSmart.com. You may also want to think about getting yourself a pedometer. Pedometers are handy little gadgets that can measure your distance and time and help you keep track of your progress.

Why am I walking?

Now that you have your equipment and are ready to go, it might be nice to know why you are starting a walking program. The health benefits of walking are many and include the following:

Helps with weight loss.

Helps to reduce blood pressure

Reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes

Relieves stress

Boosts overall energy levels

Strengthens the heart and reduces the risk of heart disease

Studies have shown that walking relieves depression and anxiety

Strengthens your body

Burns almost the same amount of calories as running

How should I start?

Since walking uses almost all 650 of your muscles it is a very good idea to warm up before you begin a walk. This will loosen up your body and help to avoid injury.

How long should I walk?

You should build up to walking for about one hour. Your current fitness level will determine the length and time of your first walk. Some people will only be able to walk around the block, others will able to walk the full hour. Do what you feel comfortable with and build from that point. Keep a log to measure your progress. As you become fitter, increase the pace and distance.

Personally, I like to measure my walks in distance. A pedometer will be of great assistance. Measuring your walk in distance helps to compensate for days when you might walk a little slower or faster. After your first few walks try to achieve a brisk pace where you may be puffing a little but you can still talk. Remember, there is not much difference in the amount of energy (calories) expended by walking or running a specified distance.

After you have finished your walk don’t forget to cool down. Try to spend about 5 minutes walking slowly. This will allow your heart, lungs and blood flow to return to normal gradually. This decreases strain on your heart and can help to prevent muscle strain and soreness.

JUST DO IT!!!

Hey, you’ve seen the commercials. Now you just have to commit yourself to walking on a regular schedule. Make it part of your routine just like brushing your teeth. It’s easy to do and doesn’t require special training or equipment. Just do it!

Fun Nursery Themes That Will Even Have Your Baby Talking!

There are many whimsical, fun baby room themes if you are planning on decorating a nursery. Infants need stimulation, so parents get the chance to be kids again and let their playfulness and imagination run wild.

A fun, flexible baby room theme is to decorate it in whimsical patterns. Try painting butter yellow or grass green stripes on the walls. Then hang bold graphic pictures of cats and dogs in bright red or blue frames on the walls.

Use the same graphic style to paint a toy chest using stencils, or apply stickers against a colorful painted background.

Another fun baby room theme is a design around the theme of Sweet Dreams. Use bright colors such as watermelon pink
and lime green on accessory pieces, and then choose white for the walls, ceiling, and lamps.

Use the bright, bold colors in places that will capture your baby’s attention, and mix them with different fabrics and patterns. Try fabrics such as grape terry cloth, plaids, polka dots, and candy cane stripes. Paint the walls a creamy vanilla to keep the room centered and calm.

You might wallpaper one entire wall with a bold print of watermelon slices. Then hang a diaphanous sheer
white-on-white polka dot draping from the ceiling that flows around the crib. Paint or paper a small square above the crib with the same watermelon slice print.

When your baby looks up, he or she will certainly fall asleep and have sweet dreams!

A good theme for decorating a baby nursery is to design it around a Playhouse theme. This baby room theme works well for both boys and girls, and also gives them a great place to play as they grow older. Use a border paper with houses or apartment buildings printed on it.

You can find a variety of whimsical playtown dressers with buildings, cars, and clouds painted on them. Top it with a lamp that has a wooden base shaped like an apartment building and a taxicab clock. You might paint a mural of a street scene on one wall and use your family member’s names on the signs above stores.

There is a multitude of characters from cartoons that you can utilize for baby room themes. Try Superman, Aladdin, the Lion King, Curious George, Snoopy, Cinderella, or Mickey Mouse. How about pirates, knights, princesses, castles, cowboys, Peter Pan, and Tinkerbell?

You’ll have no problem finding bedding, lamps, rocking chairs, and other accessories with these design figures.

You can even choose animals for baby room themes, such as frogs, bugs, and goldfish. Buy a table and chair set painted with snails, butterflies, moths, ladybugs and caterpillars.

Or furniture with bold colors and patterns, such as lime green chunky ball feet on tables, and chairs with polka dots decorating purple table and chair legs.

Transportation themes are also easy to coordinate when you are deciding on a baby room theme. Pick planes, trains, bicycles, or automobiles. Use bright primary colors and put up a display of model trains or vintage cars.

Whichever theme you decide on, choose a design that is appropriate for an infant and a toddler. Use inexpensive,
stain-repellant area rugs that can be replaced when you want to update the design.

The frog lamps, duck mobiles, and framed pictures of lions and tigers can easily be switched to pictures of the latest cartoon heroes when your infant becomes a toddler.

The most important factor in choosing a baby room theme is to make sure it’s safe and comfortable for your baby.

Then figure out all the activities that the room will be used for and go from there. The sky, literally, is the limit!

Safety In Baby Cribs

Baby cribs may keep your baby safe from falling off during sleep but do you
know that cribs, when badly constructed and improperly used can be a health
and life hazard to your child?

No matter how expensive the baby crib is or how many safety tests it passed,
parents should not be too sure as accidents can happen and often because of
overconfidence and neglect.

Remember that your baby’s body is fragile and not being used to their
environment, they are naturally curious about everything and anything.
Things that you would not even think of being a dangerous part of the baby
crib can be dangerous to them.

So whether you are using a brand new baby crib that you just bought a couple
of months ago from a reputable store or recycling the ones that you used for
your older kids, it is important that you keep your eyes and mind open for
hazardous possibilities as they may be lurking in places that you would not
even consider remotely dangerous! Here are some tips that can help keep your
child safe in a baby crib and remember that one mistake can mean your his
life.

Be instruction-wise

Never believe that for one-minute you know everything about baby cribs just
because you’ve used one before. And no matter how much knowledge you think
you have, it is still imperative that you read the manual and instruction
guide.

In addition to providing the step-by-step guide on how to set-up the baby
crib from scratch, the manual will also contain some tips on how to properly
care for your crib and to avoid accidents while using it.

Be inspection-wise

When buying a baby crib or when you are about to use one, make sure that
everything is in place and there are no broken or bent parts. Sharp edges,
missing joints and small removable parts in baby cribs can also be dangerous
as they can be choking hazards.

Side edges and protrusions can also become strangulation hazards as
blankets, necklaces and shirts can be caught. Avoid buying cribs that have
these features. Also, never put necklaces or anything around your baby’s
neck. While it is not likely to happen, it is better, as they say, to err on
the side of caution.

Go with non-toxic

Baby crib finish should be made with non-toxic materials that are
recommended for young children. As babies’ body systems, especially the
immune systems are still developing, it is important that they be protected
from chemicals and toxins in the environment. When buying baby cribs, make
sure that you ask the salesperson for ones built using non-toxic materials.

Close the dropsides

While the dropside mechanism in baby cribs can be mightily convenient, it
can also spell disaster if you are not cautious in using it. Be sure that
when you do put your baby inside the crib, you have raised the drop side and
have locked it. Some parents may remember to raise it up but forget to
secure it with a lock, causing accidents.

Just put the basics

Remember that the more things inside the baby crib, the greater the
possibility of accident to your baby, as anything can be a potential choking
and strangulation hazard. To avoid this, keep the baby crib to a bare
minimum, only placing things that are absolutely necessary like a pillow and
a blanket. Toys inside the crib is okay if your baby is awake and playing
but always remember to remove them when he is about to be put into bed.
Parents are also advised to avoid placing dangling toys on the side of the
crib as loose straps may capture your baby and strangle him.

Steroid Fakes And Counterfeits

Do not buy illegal steroid fakes!

Steroids come in a wide variety of assorted, forms, shapes, sizes, textures, and colors. It’s because of such variety that there are more steroid fakes and counterfeit drugs on the market than there are real anabolics. Fakes are plentiful because they are cheap to manufacture and easy to pass on to unsuspecting bodybuilders. To the untrained eye they can be almost identical to the real drug. If you or someone else is purchasing steroids from any source but a close friend or relative, you stand an excellent chance of being taken in by a con artist.

Two types of fakes

With the crackdown on anabolic steroids in the early 1990’s, bodybuilders and other athletes have turned to the black-market to obtain the drugs for their cycles. There are basically two types of bogus (fake) steroids on the black market. The first type is not bogus in the usual sense, but rather semi-bogus. They are real steroids, but they have fake labels, and the dosages listed are usually incorrect. Licensed pharmaceutical companies do not manufacture these drugs. Steroid users are well aware of this, but insist that as long as a drug works, and is easily obtainable, they are not concerned.

The second group of steroid fakes (which is the more numerous type) are fake in every sense of the word. For example, users have reported buying bottles of clear liquids (such as distilled water) from other athletes. These bottles have no labels and are often not the type of bottle normally associated with the packaging of the drug. To make the steroid seem more legitimate, many fake steroid producers put cooking oils in the bottle. Injecting such a substance into your body is a short cut to developing any number of serious side effects.

Big Money - Big Fakes - Big Con!

As expected steroid fakers are in operation for one purpose; to separate you from your hard-earned money. If someone at the gym promises you any steroid in any quantity, for an “unbelievable price”, chances are your’re about to be had. The most effective way to spot counterfeits is to compare it to the original. The problem with this, however, is that most bodybuilders have never even seen the original! There is also a pattern between the popularity of the steroid and the number of fakes available. As expected such highly-sought out steroids as Deca-durabolin, Winstrol, and Dianabol, are faked the most. You have to be real careful if you buy these particular drugs.

Take a close look

The best way to identify steroid fakes, is to look closely at how the drug is packaged. Fakers try to maximize profits and minimize expenses so they rarely invest much time or money into making their product look authentic. For every bodybuilder who can spot the difference the faker knows that their are a hundred who will be duped into falling for the scam. Generally fake steroids have packaging that looks close to the original, but only superficially. One way to spot fakes is to look at the batch number and expiration dates. In legitimate pharmaceutical labs these numbers are usually printed on the labels after the labels are produced. If the label on the bottle you are looking at appears to have been printed all at once (numbers at the same time as the labels), then odds are you have a fake in your hand.

Other ways to spot fakes are:

* That the expiration date on the box matches the one on the product as well

* You should not be able to easily peal the label off of the ampule or the bottle.

* Most steroids made by legitimate companies use labels with rounded corners.

* The label is on straight and it doesn’t overlap itself.

* With glass ampules, be sure that they are filled consistently, and of the same color.

Buying fakes

As of 1991 anabolic steroids are classified as controlled (illegal) substances.
Attempting to obtain steroids from an unknown source on the Internet is risky and frankly, stupid. The person on the other end of your keyboard could be some law enforcement agent trying to set you up. At the very least they’ll take your money and sell you a steroid fake. In the dangerous world of the steroid black-market it’s buyer beware.

Baby Signs - Truth or Fiction?

Babies learn our language in a very different and perhaps progressive manner. Initially, they hear sounds and form them into patterns. They might even notice different syllables. They also have an innate perception for tone, which can convey and show feeling and emotion of the speaker. But the ability to communicate simply is not there yet. A high pitch voice can cause a baby to smile simply because of the tone. All babies learn and understand language prior to their ability to articulate exact phrasing of words. They can often learn to convey simple thoughts, such as “more”, “change” and “eat”.

The main point is the bridge the gap between the ability to communicate and the ability to be understood. Luckily, there’s a way to do this. It is known as “baby signs”. Baby signs can be very effective in the reinforcement in the development of a baby’s language skills. As parents, we can assist in this development and lowers the frustration level of a baby.

The theory behind baby signs is to assign a common but consistent gesture to a word. The more common word can be “eat”, “more”, “potty” etc. Perhaps it could be pointing to your mouth. The point is to have the baby associate the gesture with the meaning of the word. Some common points are to speak to the baby directly, making good eye contact and do the gesture at the same time. You can begin doing this as to the baby as young as 2-3 months. If so, they by the time the baby are 10-12 months, they can communicate with you using baby signs.

The earlier your baby starts learning signs, the earlier they will start using them. It’s all about the connection that the baby makes in their brain with ideas and signs. This connection has been proven to give them a head start in the world of verbal communication. Which will lead to speech as soon as possible. The most important point is that it reduces the baby’s frustration level with their ability to communicate with you.

Some opponent of this theory says that babies using baby signs might not effective with their speech. However, studies and my personal experience have proved otherwise entirely. The connection between thoughts and word are form earlier, which lends itself to a higher, and a more satisfying form with existence.

Even though baby signs are a relatively new concept, it is very effective with new babies and how they can talk to their parents. Everyone in his or her family raves about the increased comfort level with the baby.

Good Printable Baby Shower Games - Tips for Finding Them

If you’re hosting a baby shower, you need games; that’s a given. The trick is finding good baby shower games that don’t bore people to tears. Printable baby shower games are available online. They can be found at various sites, sometimes for a price and at some sites one can find free printable baby shower games.

Baby shower games probably started back with the cave men playing “Let’s see who can throw the Pterodactyl egg the farthest” while the cave women discussed various methods of cooking the leftovers of the game. Since this isn’t really an option today unless you’re going for a Prehistoric theme, you’ll need to find good baby shower games that people dressed in something other than animal skins can enjoy.

Good games for baby showers don’t need a lot of supplies. One popular one is Baby Bingo, a twist on normal Bingo where the Bingo sheet consists of various baby words and phrases with the first person to complete a row winning. You can find that and other printable baby shower games on sites, both free and retail, that specialize in supplies for baby showers.

Making good baby shower games such as these is easy to do yourself if you put some time into it. Using the ideas online, you can create your own versions of their games and print them off, making your own printable baby shower games with a more personal touch.

Whatever games for baby showers you choose, don’t get bogged down in details. You want to have fun and let guests win small prizes and recognition. In the end though, even printable baby shower games don’t change the fact that the main focus is and should be the mother to be.
